How to Turn Down Clients - The Nice Way
Let's be honest, we've all been there. You get on a call with a prospective client and something just doesn't sit quite right. You start to doubt if this will be a fit for your agency, and then that pit in your stomach forms: How do I turn them down?
On this week's episode of the Happy Clients Podcast, we invited our Marketing Manager and Sales Expert, Carly Corkum, to share her take on how to turn clients down the nice way. Her biggest takeaways:
It's OK to turn clients down— this actually can protect your business and team if you're being selective in your intake process.
Develop your client avatar— this helps in making sure you're vetting clients to find your "right fits" and not keeping a prospect waiting if it's not going to work out. Be honest and let them know up front to not keep them waiting.
If you're going to turn someone down, look to add value in other ways— If you deem a prospective client to not be a fit for your team, try to identify their pain points clearly and point them in a direction that may help. In our case at DOT, sometimes it means training opportunities or connections to other agencies in our network! Make sure you're always keeping the relationship on a good note.
If you've ever asked yourself what to do in those sticky sales and client intake situations, this podcast will definitely give you the confidence to refine your process for working with clients.
